Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly do you ship?

We typically dispatch orders within 2 business days! During checkout you can select your preferred speed of shipping service.

Do you ship internationally?

We do now ship internationally to most countries, with the help of a third-party global shipping program! International customers should be able to check out normally.

What is your return/refund policy?

We do not accept returns except in the case of damaged or defective orders. We also consider refunds or replacements for orders lost in transit. More details on our policy can be found here.

Do you have a brick-and-mortar store?

Yes! Our Lisle/Naperville brick-and-mortar store is open at 6464 College Rd, Lisle IL 60532.

Why are there so few books listed on your website?

We've been busy getting the brick-and-mortar part of the business off the ground and just haven't had time to update online inventory. We have lots more books in-store! In the future we hope to add more in-store inventory to the website, but it's a time-consuming process, so it's possible that we may focus on only listing higher-value or collectible books online.

In the meantime, we are testing out an in-store inventory search for books so that you can check in-store inventory at any time - you can try it out here! If you find any bugs or weirdness, let us know. If you see something you like in our in-store book search that isn't listed online, you can reach out to us to make it available online.

Do you accept donations?

We happily accept donations of gently used books. Feel free to bring them by the shop during our open hours! If you plan to bring more than a few boxes, please give us a heads-up first.

We generally do not accept:

  • Encyclopedias or textbooks
  • Magazines
  • Books with large amounts of highlighting, annotations, or dog-earing
  • Modern hardcovers with torn-up or missing dust jackets
  • Anything dirty, falling apart, water-damaged, smelly, moldy, etc.

Do you buy books?

We offer store credit for books that we're interested in! We no longer buy in cash, with rare exceptions. Books can be brought in for store credit evaluation anytime during store hours, but if we are busy you might have to wait or leave the books plus your contact information with us. Please give us a heads-up if you intend to bring more than a few boxes/bags.

What if I want to support you but you don't have the book I want / I prefer audiobooks / I prefer e-books?

For physical books, we're always happy to order new or used copies in for you if we don't have them in stock, but we also completely understand if it's easier to have them shipped straight to you. If you order new books or e-books through our Bookshop.org page, we'll receive a commission. Same for audiobooks ordered through our Libro.fm page. In short:

Do you offer book club hosting or private events at the store?

We do! If you're interested in hosting with us, please send us an email with a description of your potential event for an overview of times, fees, etc.

I'm a local self-published author. Will you stock my book?

Due to our greater focus on used books and lack of capacity to return unsold new books, we are not able to purchase most new self-published books to stock unless there is demonstrated local demand among customers or special relevance to the shop (books about capybaras, for example). We are always happy to order in a copy of any self-published book if a customer places a custom order for it. We are also happy to take a copy as a donation if you'd like to get on our shelves that way.

With that said, we do host a Local Author Book Fair as our way of supporting the local author community! This summer's fair will be on Saturday June 6th and Saturday June 20th. See our Events page for more details.

You are welcome to email us information about your book(s), but please note that we receive a high volume of inquiries of this nature and may not be able to respond individually. We also recommend checking out our bookstore neighbors Anderson's Bookshop and Swallow Stories Bookshop, both of which have excellent programs for local authors.
